In Greek, GREECE is called HELLAS. A word consisted of two ancient ones: "HEL" which is the root of an ancient Greek word meaning "shining" (Hel-ios = Sun), "LAS" which is the ancient Greek word for "stone" (la-tomeio = quarry). The ancient Greeks named their country: HEL-LAS = Shining Stone.
In Greece Marble can be found throughout the country. High quality marble are being quarried from the Mainland and from the Islands. The area presentation introduces the types of the marble which are being quarried in each territory.
